Here’s to the Fact That the World is Mad About You
“Here’s to the fact that world is mad about you. I want you to have it all.” – an excerpt from the song Have It All by Jason Mraz
These words feel different today, in a world that really seems to be going mad. People are so divided that even those in the middle get ostracized. “If you are not with us, then you are against us,” they say. But I am a firm believer in our oneness. I just don’t see the world in that way. All I see are children everywhere, trying to figure out how to deal with the pain within, every day.
The thing that frustrates me watching the war in the Middle East unfold, is the fact that their emotional wounds are very similar. Let’s say we had people from each side describe their emotional pain, then took away all the words that would identify their ethnicity and religion. I think they are the perfect candidate to understand each other’s heartache.
The pain of being mistreated for their ethnicity. The fear of a sudden attack. The message of worthlessness that comes through every action. And of course, the gaping hole in their hearts from the loss of their beloved.
If they can recognize that, maybe they can see how unhelpful their attacks are. That they are just perpetuating the pain for yet another generation, if they continue with more violence.
The only way to true peace is through love. People might dismiss that as unrealistic. And it certainly isn’t the easiest way. It’s a path that takes the most courage and self reflection. It’s a path that requires you to admit to your own faults. And it also requires the willingness to keep your heart open. It is, in fact, very difficult.
Which is why I am talking about it now. Time is now to learn to see the world as one. Learn to remain in love now, so that if you are ever caught in a conflict, you won’t waver. Learn to recognize all people on this planet as citizens of Earth, so that labels won’t alter how you see others. Do it now, before you find yourself in emotional turmoil.
I want to wrap up this Month of Mays with words from another of Jason’s songs, If You Think You’ve Seen It All. It is a vision that rings true in my heart. This is where my faith remains.
“Let us boldly go
Where only those with open hearts can go
Where words aren’t spoken and time is golden
And love’s blindfolding us with hope
And we stay honest and keep our promises
Keep evolving, keeping on this
All we have to do is hold on
And love will do the rest
All we havе to do is hold on
And take another breath”
