A Month of Mays: May We Understand Reiki Energy
For some years now, during the month of May, I’ve taken on a project called A Month of Mays, where I write a prayer for the world and expand on it each day. This year, I want to do this with a focus on reiki, in hopes that it would help more people understand what it is, and that it becomes something more accessible to everyone.
What is Reiki?
First of all, do you know what Reiki is? Have you ever heard that word before? The most well-known form of reiki today is a Japanese energy healing method developed by Mikao Usui and spread internationally via Hawayo Takata. I’ve seen people describe it as an ancient method, but Mikao Usui developed it only a hundred years ago.
The idea of using energy to heal has been around much longer, though, and in many other cultures worldwide. Chinese medicine, for example, aims to heal by balancing the “chi”. Even the Bible refers to Jesus healing the sick by laying his hands on them. This healing energy is all around us. We just use different words to describe the same thing. To me, this healing energy is just “love”, plain and simple.
Why Use Energy Healing?
In my case, reiki has helped me understand what unconditional love truly feels like. It makes me feel love towards anything and everything. And I know, at the core of my being, that we are always protected. When I use reiki, I feel a gush of love flowing through me. And the fun part is, I get to pass it on to the world around me. Reiki brings me comfort, joy, and an absolute sense of security. I usually have a big smile on my face when I’m using reiki because it’s so relaxing!
Right now, you might be skeptical because the concept of energy healing is so unfamiliar. But I believe that if you are reading this, you are here because reiki is supposed to be a part of your life. I truly hope that you will put aside your skepticism for just one month and come along with me for a deeper dive into the world of reiki!
