We Are Earthlings: Opening Up Your Perspective With Oneness
So I think I’m ready to delve deeper into the concept of Oneness and why it’s important to view the world from the perspective of Oneness. I’ll attempt to explain what Oneness is in this post, and why it’s important in the next one.
But Before We Start…
I want to really emphasize that living from Oneness is not going to feel right for everyone. I mentioned this in the introductory post, but this world view can feel distant and callous at times, especially if you are currently knee deep in an emotionally challenging experience. Even though I’m the one writing about it, I still struggle with how to handle that aspect at times, too. We all have different lessons to learn in this life and we need to go through different experiences for that to happen. If this way of thinking just doesn’t feel right to you, then it’s not part of your soul journey, and that’s completely OK. There’s no need to force yourself to adopt this.
But, in my experience, being able to see through the eyes of Oneness has significantly reduced the amount of drama. And if it can do that for someone else, even if just one person, I feel like it’s worth sharing.
So What Is Oneness?
Oneness is the concept that each individual is connected within the infinite existence. We might feel that we are different, but we are not separate at the fundamental level. It’s definitely not the easiest concept to explain in just words.
One image that people sometimes use is this idea that you are a single drop of water within a vast ocean. There is a distinct separation between the H2Os if you look at the ocean at the molecular level. But most people wouldn’t define a raindrop that fell into the ocean as a raindrop anymore. They’ll just say it’s part of the ocean.
As Within, So Without
In the song I wrote called We All are One, I try to invoke another image with the lines:
We all have atoms spinning inside of us, Just like we're spinning around the sun in outer space.
We see this atomic structure repeating at multiple levels in the microcosm as well as the macrocosm. Slightly above the atom level, our cells have a nucleus and organelles moving around it. Our own bodies have a heart in the center and blood circulating throughout. I mentioned the Earth rotating around the sun, and then our solar system is just one of the stars spinning around a black hole within the Milky Way Galaxy. As within, so without. Depending on your perspective, human beings are as tiny as a speck but as vast as the universe at the same time.
What It’s Like to be Aware of Oneness
Living with the awareness of Oneness allows you to widen your perspective. It’s like gaining a second set of eyes! One analogy I can make is that it’s like going from being a character in a book with a third-person narrator to being the first-person narrator in a book about yourself. You’re no longer at the mercy of an outside force to dictate how you feel and act. You’re not the author yet (that’s another story for another time), so you still don’t know what events are going to happen, but you now get to choose how you react to them.
You might feel like you are alone, but you have billions of cells and microorganisms within you who want you to stay alive, and are helping you stay healthy. You are never alone. Once you’re aware of Oneness, you realize you’re only choosing to not see in that moment! So be the narrator in your life. It’s your birthright to have full control over your own emotions.
